Obituaries:

The following obituary appeared in the Chicago, Illinois, Chicago Tribune on 6 April 1989:

Auto parts entrepreneur Isadore C. Friedman, 91

Copyright Chicago Tribune Co. Apr 6, 1989

Isadore C. Friedman, 91, a Chicago industrialist, was founder and chairman emeritus of the Skokie-headquartered Everco Industries Inc., a national leader in manufacturing auto parts.

Services for Mr. Friedman, a longtime resident of the Edgewater neighborhood, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel at 9200 N. Skokie Blvd., Skokie. He died Saturday in a Palm Springs, Calif., hospital.

"A person in the industry told me that my father's death represented the passing of an era," Ronald Friedman said.

"He was one of the movers and shakers, from the time when most auto part manufacturers were owned privately rather than by conglomerates. He was an entrepreneurial type, a detail-oriented individual who was involved in every aspect of the business-production, purchasing, sales, financing and distribution."

Mr. Friedman, a native of Russia, came to Chicago in the early part of the century. He worked first for Peerless Light Co. In 1928, he cofounded Federal Auto Products Co. The new firm began with steel valve caps for inner tubes. No one, at the time, was making hubcaps for Model T Fords because the hub had a non-standard thread. The company got a roller skate manufacturer in Kankakee to supply it the hubcaps. An order for 500,000 got the product line moving, and Federal became the leading supplier of replacement hubcaps.

The firm then began manufacturing selected items in-house. Its Everhot line of heater products became so successful that the firm's name was changed in 1933 to Everhot Products Co.

By World War II, the company was producing brass fittings, flexible fuel lines and Bundyfex steel brake lines, which today are the leading replacement brake tubes.

Eventually, Everhot started produced cooling system and air conditioning parts under the brand name Everkool. To reflect this emphasis, the firm in 1972 became Everco Industries, Inc.

After selling the company in 1986, Mr. Friedman retained an office there.

Mr. Friedman, who served on the first American-Israel Trade Mission, was named Industrialist of the Year by the Israel Chamber of Commerce.

He was on the boards of the National Bank of North Evanston, the Bank of Elgin and the Bank of Schiller Park.

Survivors, besides his son, include his wife, Tamara; four daughters, Furn Walach, Gloria Lerman, Marlene Pochis and Barbara Walner; 28 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother.6

Obituaries:

The following obituary appeared in the Rossville, Illinois, Rossville Press on 23 November 1939:

Harley J. Reynolds, 59, veteran E. J. & E. railroad employee was found dead at his home here early Friday morning, Novemer 17, 1939.

Mr. Reynolds had been ill during the night but refused to have a doctor. Mrs. Reynolds went to call him at 7:00 a.m., but thought he was resting. At 8:30 his son Stanley went to his room and discovered he was dead. The cause of death was attributed to a heart attack.

Harley Johnson Reynolds was born in Rossville, February 10, 1880, son of Samuel and Dorcus Seals Reynolds.

His early youth was spent in Rossville and as a young man he went to Danville where he entered business. In that city he was united in marriage to Miss Marie Kruger on December 9, 1903.

Mr. Reynolds returned to Rossville about 32 years ago and has won the respect of his fellow workman on the railroad, who out of their esteem for him, did all they could to lighten his labor the last months of his service with them. He was a member of Railroad Trainmen.

He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Ethel Cook and Mrs. Ruby McElhaney of Peoria; Clara, George and Stanley at home, six grandchildren and one half brother, N. J. Smith.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the United Brethern church with the Rev. A. H. Flagge officiating.

F. C. Reinhold sang three numbers, "My Jesus I Love Thee," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" accompanied at the piano by Jean Murphy.

Pallbearers were James LaBounty, Melvin Wilson, Al Mullins, Carl Owens, Thomas Burns and B. R. Lockwood.

Flowers were in charge of Leota Deck, Audrey Stevenson, Pauline Beckley, Creta Cornell, Goldie Ellis, Martha Ellis and Viola Galloway.

Burial was in the Rossville Cemetery with Freese in charge.10
